This is about the whitewashing accusation. We asked you for your feedback and it basically came in two groups: you don’t think we’re whitewashing and you don’t think we’d ever do it intentionally.

First of all, we’d like to truly thank everyone for your support. This is a delicate subject and we don’t want to engage in this practice. Whitewashing can happen unintentionally; the “we didn’t mean it” excuse is not an excuse at all. That’s why we put this matter in public light.

So, here’s what we’re gonna do. We’ll try to come up with a new PSD. In the meantime, we’ll keep using the current one while paying a bit more attention to the lighting in the original pictures as far as Angel is concerned. We’ll compile all the posts and messages on this subject and put it in the sidebar so that you can all easily access to it and, in the future, if you ever feel offended about a particular edit we make, remember that our ask box is ready to receive your concerns.

Also to the previous message, i think with all that's going on with the inner beauty it's not fair of you to claim you've been whitewashing here. Because for starters you aren't and secondly you're already proclaiming that it's about inner beauty so why would the color of her skin then matter to you (and personally i think it's brilliant they cast a colored actress, just gives another dynamic then your traditional blond blue eyes gwen)

We are a bit confused about your message. We, the mods, aren’t saying we’ve been whitewashing Angel. We’ve been accused of doing so by someone else, and we’re asking for everyone’s opinion on this, because we certainly don’t want to whitewash her, even if unintentionally. We explained everything in this post.

We are at a total loss as to the second half of your message, because we don’t understand what you’re referring to. However, her skin colour does matter, because POC and especially WOC don’t get many lead, non-stereotyped roles, unfortunately. It’s very important that Guinevere (and other iconic roles) are played by POC and that is why whitewashing is such an abhorrent practice. We certainly don’t want to engage in that.

Also, we understand you’re coming from a good place, but “colored” is a really offensive word. Person of colour is what you should use. =)

In regards to: "Mod note:We have been accused of whitewashing Angel." Don't worry, you aren't whitewashing at all, it's very obvious that you're just using the filter that you do for pretty much all of your images (regardless of who is in the picture).

Hi. Some have already said the same thing, but for what it's worth, the edits never bothered me, and I never thought they were whitewashed. It's obviously a uniform filter for every confession. Keep up the great work, guys! : )

We thank everyone for your opinions and we really would like a lot of feedback on this. We dread to think we’ve been whitewashing Angel all this time.

People need to be complaining about the whitewashing the show does on angel, her skin color gets lighter every season. I know ya'll wouldnt do something like that especially since yall blog has defended POC all the time. keep up the good work, best merlin blog eva.

Thank you for your opinion, Anon, but it’s best not to say that someone is “unbelievably sensitive” to racism. Racism is a very ugly thing and it’s not anyone’s place to try and measure how much POC should or should not be affected by it.

Thank you for your support, though. Please don’t look at what we said as a bad thing, just as constructive criticism.

Because of the obvious way you edit ALL of the pictures, I can tell that you're not trying to make Angel's skin lighter. In that picture, her forehead IS light, but that seems to be because there was a bunch of light directed at that part of the original picture so your editing only made it lighter. I don't believe that's whitewashing? I think that's just how the picture turned out after the edit you used (like you use on all of them).

We would like to hear more.

We have been accused of whitewashing Angel. This was very surprising to us, as we don’t actively try to lighten her skin tone. We do not want to do so.

We use one PSD for ALL of our pictures. We don’t use a particular colouring for Angel and a different one for the rest.

Our colouring has a gradient. It is lighter at the top in ALL the pictures. We take the picture and we add our PSD. We don’t touch anything else, therefore, the pictures may look differently according to what their original properties were.

We don’t think this is whitewashing. We certainly DON’T WANT for this to be whitewashing. However, if many of you think like this, please let us know and we will try to come up with another colouring.
