The parallels visible in Merlin/Arthur and Uther/Gaius are kind of painful. I don’t want them to eventually become like that.
I love how hard Merlin struggles to keep something from Gaius when Gaius KNOWS something is being hidden - and he uses his eyebrow to give Merlin the stink-eye.
Morgana used to be a kind and loving person, that doesn’t just change overnight. Things contributed to the person she is today. Gaius drugging her for years and basically telling her she was crazy, Merlin not telling her he had magic when she was feeling scared and alone and him ultimately poisoning her, and I am convinced the year she was away Morgause brainwashed her and made her power hungry.
How many times are Merlin’s loved ones going to die right in front of him? If I was in his position I would’ve tied myself to the pyre ten times over by now. If Gaius or Gwaine get killed off in season 5 I’m throwing a brick through my TV.
No matter how ‘evil’ Morgana gets I’ll always remember that she was willing to risk her life to protect Arthur, like how in The Gates of Avalon she told Gaius “I’ve got to do something! If I don’t then Arthur will die!” And even though Gaius said “You can’t tell Uther about your dream. If Uther thinks you’ve got the seer’s power, he’ll charge you with witchcraft” she was adamant: “I don’t have a choice. I couldn’t live with myself knowing I’d let him die.”
I hope Gaius doesn’t die in season 5. It would break my heart to see Merlin loses him.
I find it creepy that Gaius survived the purge despite being known to Uther as a warlock. I’ve always suspected that he bought his life with the lives of others.
Gaius, I love you man, but I think it’s time you retire and pass to Merlin the physician activity: it would give him more responsibility besides attending to Arthur’s needs.
It annoys me how in 1x01 Gaius says Merlin is special cause he does magic without saying spells and then every single other sorcerer in the show does magic without saying anything.
I’ll never forgive Gaius for not helping Morgana come to terms with her magic and teach her and mentor her like he did for Merlin.
