NC: Lancelot/Gwen enchantment/affair was, well in my opinion, used as a way to make Arthur look good as a character. His forgiveness shows that he is willing to forgive and not allow his pride to keep him from being a good King. Also, this sets up the stage for when Merlin's betrayal is revealed. Arthur might show him even more mercy.
